First, drink lots of water. It will help keep your phlegm moist so you can cough it up, and it won't stay in your lungs and make your infection worse.
Take a hot bath. The heat will act like a fever and actuallyhelp you fight off the infection. And the steam will act as a decongestant for your nose and lungs.
Eat something with lots of red pepper. It will also open your nasal passages and help you stay drained. It probably works better than expectorants like guafenisin (which is in cough syrup.)
Take an advil or a tylenol if you have a headache.
If your sinuses are clogged, take sudafed or the generic equivalent. You will have to ask at the drugstore counter for this. If they have an 8-hour or 12-hour version get that. Those are timed-release versions, and they will keep a steadier level in your blood.
Get plenty of rest. Have somebody come over and make a fuss over you. Chicken soup is good, but I especially like that Thai hot and spicy chicken soup, tom kha gai. Yum!
Take care! Get well soon!
